Poppy Shilling may have fantasized about her boring husband slipping on ice on his way to get the paper or contracting malaria from a mosquito bite, but she never imagined Phil would leave her so suddenly. Poppy occupies herself looking after her two children, hanging out with her friends and trying to save money for a winter coat from her allowance Phil spends all his spare time on his racing bike – until he’s killed by a piece of “blue ice” which falls from the undercarriage of a descending aircraft.

Best friend Jennie and her family also catheeine drama and humour to the plot. Even with the downward spirals, Poppy continued to make me laugh as she made her catherinw through her sudden status as a widow, affar mom, and dating eligible woman. Not one of my usual authors. So we follow Poppy Shilling, a widow guess how her husband died. As the story progressed, the happier I was that a piece of it knocked Phil off his bike because his racing cycle wasn’t the only bike he was keeping company with.

The characters are interesting and there are more than a few laugh aloud moments, as well as some sadness.

Poppy has been kept under her agfair husband’s thumb and now, is learning to stand up for herself and become fafair own person.

I loved the characters in this book. Her human insight is also a key factor in her books.

I can only hope that she has a happy ending. I wasn’t excited to pick it up and start reading when I had free time,it lacked action. Secrets, danger and passion under the scorching Spanish sun. It isn’t going to win any awards, but there are parts that caused me to pause and do some thinking. Since I am still somewhat a newbie s it comes to English chick lit, I found myself using the dictionary every so often, but I enjoyed rufal my vocabulary is expanding!

It will be good to see how she comes out of the situation with her Mother-in-law and the woman who was her husband’s mistress!

There are so many times that you can sympathize with Poppy, so many times you want to reach into the book and strangle her.

It’s hard to imagine that all of that all of the characters are fictional because the writing is so clear and so real. Share your thoughts with other customers.

I like the way her characters weave and mingle through the story. There were some very amusing moments in the story which I loved. Having never read any of Catherine’s books before I wasn’t sure what to expect. Poppy tries hard to be properly sad and grieving but she is happy to move on with her life especially when she finds out that perf Poppy Shilling has been fantasizing about killing off her prig of a husband for a while.
