Mr Palomar may begin the book fully formed, as a man who needs order in a chaotic universe, but his personality, his curiosity and his innate sadness are gradually peeled down as we read more about him.

Most of the chapters left me cold, though I did like the story about odd sized slippers and the unwitting fellowship conferred on strangers by being part of a “odd matched pair”. This is a book too which challenges understandings of what is important. He also reminded me that so often my wonder is deflated into a series of rituals and performances followed day in and day out as I manage to survive from one day to the next will my bills paid, my food eaten, my exercise completed, my dishes sometimes even washed.

He feels the need of defining every moment, every instant of his being and also the need of finding a set pattern in the world which gives him the pleasure of knowing that he has lived his life the way it ought to be lived and the universe exist the way it ought to exist whether Mr.

I wanted to give this book one star as Calivno “did not like it”, but out of respect for many admiring readers of it here, give it two stars instead. But what if language was really the goal toward which everything in existence tends?

If you see anything like what I can see in it you’ll want to come back to it one day to review it slowly. In this one he is dwelling on the possible meanings of the two-note calls of blackbirds to each mr.palimar and the potential significance of the silence between calls. I find that they often misrepresent the books that they are supposed to be describing. Mr Mr.palmar is a marvelous gem of playful observation of the world that turns itself into a mr.plomar treatise of what it means to be human in a bewildering yet enchanting universe.
